Tips for a Successful Bridal Gown Appointment

  1. Bring two or three close family or friends to help you shop. A larger group can distract you and keep you following your passion.
  2. Wear comfortable and supportive undergarments.
  3. Bring photos or use a Pinterest board of bridal gowns that inspire you.
  4. Recall that your customized dream dress is almost a one year process.
  5. Eat a healthy snack and drink lot of water to keep your energy level high so you can enjoy the appointment!

Notes from a Marina Wedding

I have a confession. I don’t think I’ve been to a wedding since Bill Clinton was president.

To correct that, my girlfriend Maya took me to her friend’s wedding at a yacht club in Dana Point this weekend.

I saw some of the same things our Senior Stylist Valerie experienced, but here’s a few things I noticed:

  1. Be ready and open — Just like pre-pandemic weddings things go right, wrong and sideways. Embrace it all and enjoy yourself. We had a great time and some of the most heartfelt moments were unplanned.
  2. Add your pet to the ceremony — The bride and groom added their dog to the ceremony and it was a lot of fun and added some humorous moments. I love dogs, so I am all for this.
  3. Outdoor ceremony — In these times, I appreciated the ceremony was held on a deck in the marina. Plus, it was a beautiful Southern California afternoon, so why not be outside? Though the reception was indoors, the ventilation was good and the liquor was flowing.
  4. Everybody taking photos — My usual gripe is smartphones have made everyone a photographer and cinematographer even if they don’t know an f-stop from a doorstop. Instead, guests, please be in the moment and let the pro hired to shoot the event do her job. OK, I did take our selfie after the ceremony.
  5. Less formal, more fun and genuine — This is a welcome trend. There were toasts and stories, but all of them seemed real and not too rehearsed. One rehearsal is a good idea though unless you anchor the evening news.

My Favorite Vets

#31DaysofSalute and My Two Favorite Veterans

Sofia Bella Bridal is a proud member of the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce and May is their 31-Day Salute to Our Armed Forces. We’re also proud that the Sofia Bella families have also served their country.

My favorite veteran is my father, Vincent, who served in the U.S. Navy. In fact, I would not be here today if my father wasn’t a sailor. Dad didn’t have a girl in every port, but he found one in Rota, Spain to fall in love with. That’s my Mom. Ahh, thanks Dad!

My other favorite is my business partner, Glen. He says he spent the waning days of his misspent youth as a U.S. Army officer. This young captain was stationed in West Germany toward the end of the Cold War. I think it was time well spent. He’s organized, quick and takes charge.

Besides Glen, his father served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War and his Uncle Anton was an Army private who waded ashore at Normandy on D-Day. Sadly, Uncle Anton did not survive the war.

Thanks to all who served and you live in our hearts forever.

In-person Bridal Appointments — What to Expect

10/18/20 UPDATE: We are open and following the guidelines. Please see below. We’re excited to see you!

We’re excited to have brides in our shop! And we’re happy that we can help you find your dream dress.

Brides have been calling us about what to expect. We’re not doing anything unusual, but following CDC and L.A. County guidelines to protect all of us.

Here’s what you can expect when you visit Sofia Bella:

  1. Please wear a mask throughout your visit.
  2. Please wash your hands or use the provided hand sanitizer.
  3. If you feel ill or have COVID symptoms, please reschedule or we’re happy to conduct a virtual appointment.
  4. Each bride can bring a maximum of two guests. We’ll Zoom or Facetime other party members so they can participate.
  5. Please practice social distancing.
  6. Between appointments we sanitize the showroom and dresses.

We can’t wait to have you visit and see our new dress line that has arrived.
